Crystal Mathews is a twenty-three year old graduate student at Texas A&M University where she is pursuing a Master's Degree in Agricultural Economics. She graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2005 with a degree in Agricultural Education.
While growing up on a family farm in Southwest Missouri as one of five children, Crystal attended Carthage High School. Her love for agriculture inspired her platform of "Agricultural Literacy." For the past seven years, she has been educating people about food and fiber systems, nutrition, food safety, and the importance of agriculture to daily life and the economy. In her efforts to teach the public about agriculture, she has spoken to audiences of 10,000, traveled more than 120,000 miles across the country, and reached more than 85,000 people with her message of Agricultural Literacy.
Crystal has served as the National Beef Ambassador, Missouri Farm Bureau Ambassador, Missouri State FFA Officer, National FFA Alumni Council Representative, and Missouri Beef Queen. She has volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Show Stoppaz Dance Team, Peak Project Tutoring, and reads regularly at local elementary schools. She was the 2006 recipient of the Miss America Community Service Scholarship, a 2005 University of Missouri Homecoming Queen Candidate, and in the Mizzou '39 Inaugural Class. Crystal also interned with the United States Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C., and completed her 16-week student teaching internship in a Chicago Public High School.
Lindsay Casmaer is a twenty-three year old graduate of the University of
Pennsylvania with a degree in Neurobiology and Behavior. Currently, she is
employed as a research assistant by Washington University, examining memory
and aging. Lindsay is also preparing to apply to medical school to further
her career ambitions of becoming a physician.
After many enjoyable
years in Philadelphia, Lindsay is happy to call Hazelwood home once again.
She currently enjoys spending time with her parents and enjoying all that St.
Louis has to offer.
Involved with her community from a young age,
Lindsay's platform of "A Life of Volunteerism - Beginning With Today's
Youth," focuses on encouraging citizens of all ages to incorporate
volunteerism into their lives. Lindsay is involved with the Alzheimer's
Association of St. Louis, as well as COCA here in St. Louis.
Lindsay
is an active alumni of Sigma Kappa Sorority, and a 2005 recipient of the
AmeriCorps Scholars in Service Award for her extensive work within the
Philadelphia community.
